As there was always leftover pulp from the wheatgrass juice, Tom started mixing it in with the dog’s food. He later added wheatgrass juice to their diet.

Tom breeds Shetland Sheep Dogs and Irish Wolfhounds. On a commercial food diet, a Shetland would normally be expected to live for 7 or 8 years and a Wolfhound for 4 or 5 years. When owners mix commercial food with their own leftover food, then these breeds can live as long as 10-11 years and 6-7 years, respectively. With the addition of wheatgrass, Tom’s Shetlands live from 14-17 years and the Wolfhounds to around 9 years.

With the addition of wheatgrass, the dog’s skin condition can also be greatly improved. Tom mentions one case where a dog’s skin was so bad that it was actually weeping. The vet initial tried steroids to control the weeping, but later suggested having the dog put down. With no other alternative, the owner brought the dog to Tom, who gave the dog one ounce of wheatgrass for every 20 lbs of body weight. The open sores improved within 7 days and within 3 weeks the dog almost back to its normal condition. The owner was overjoyed.

To test wheatgrass further Tom found a dog with cancer. The dog was in considerable pain and had a tumor on her front leg, so was unable to use it. The dog would normally have been put down at this stage. But Tom gave it 4-5 ounces of wheatgrass every day and after a month she was walking again. Today Tom would suggest feeding such an animal 8-10 ounces of wheatgrass a day. A few months later the vet saw the dog again and was astonished that it was still alive.

Steve Jones has an avid interest in health and alternative healing.
