Pit Bulls are the most preferred dog in America, in spite of the bad press they’ve been receiving lately due to the aggressive nature of some of their clan. Pit Bulls are dogs that know and understand love. So, if you can provide affection to your pet, then a Pit Bull can make a fine companion.

Pit Bulls can be purchased from breeders as well as rescue shelters. It is infinitely better to adopt a rescue dog. Dogs in rescue shelters are taken from the streets where they’ve been abandoned by heartless owners, or from people who have become too occupied to care for their dogs.

There are Pit Bulls who are being put to sleep just because some of their species have been involved in violent incidents. Rescue shelters also save dogs from such euthanasia and house them until some affectionate owner adopts them.

There are several missions that provide rescue dogs for adoption. They operate mostly via the Internet. Some of the prominent ones are Pit Bull Rescue Central, Bay Area Dog-lovers Responsible About Pit Bulls (BADRAP), Pit Bull Project, etc. These organizations advertise their Pit Bulls online along with whatever information they might have of their past histories and their traits. These Pit Bulls are spayed or neutered, either by the organizations themselves or by the people who turn them in to these rescue shelters. People adopting Pit Bulls from such shelters pay less than they would at a breeder’s. An adult Pit Bull may be adopted for as less as $150, with papers.

It is much better to adopt an adult Pit Bull than a puppy. Though puppies may be cute to look at, they are very temperamental. They may not respond to training. Puppies are also instinctively destructive and may be difficult when their teething period sets in. any they may be dangerous around children. On the other hand, adult Pit Bulls that are adopted have tendencies to be more docile and responsive to training. It is important to remember while adopting a Pit Bull that it is the behavior of the Pit Bull that matters, not its looks. You should adopt a Pit Bull that may be suitable to your lifestyle. There are Pit Bulls that are laidback or aggressive, outgoing or homebound, etc.

Pit Bulls can also be adopted from their owners directly without the intervention of rescue shelters. However this is risky, as the owners may hide some features of their pet and exaggerate some others. Whether you opt for adopting a Pit Bull from a rescue shelter or an owner, it is necessary to ask for the requisite papers.

Finally, adopting a Pit Bull is a service to their community. It is like saving a life. Adopted Pit Bulls are much more loyal and they would look upon you as their hero who rescued them from the clutches of death.

Remember that the Pitbull can make a great pet however you need toi make sure you treat them as a pet. The only reason they have such a bad light been shed on them is because of people who use them to make a profit. They mistreat their Pitbulls and entice them into fighting for gambling purposes. Your’s won’t get this treatment.

Turkey hunting is a sport that does not always have a winner. Of course, winning this game means capturing or killing a turkey for dinner or for show. Patience is basically the number one criterion of this sport. Hunters have to wait for hours until a turkey arrives. Then, they will try to call several times before they get answers. And sometimes, even if a turkey has already answered a call, it will still take a long time before it finally reaches the hunter’s proximity. Because of this, turkey hunting has been regarded as one of the most challenging sports. However, not all aspiring hunters can become successful. Turkeys are very difficult to catch because they have excellent vision and hearing. So, a turkey hunting guide might become handy.

A turkey hunting guide will most likely suggest that a novice hunter exerts patience during the times when a turkey has answered his call and is slowly approaching, as well as, during times when there is no barrier between him and the fowl. This hunter has to remain motionless for a long period of time before he shoots, because even a single movement can scare the turkey away. Then, another useful tip that may be found on a turkey hunting guide is to close the breach in some situations. So, instead of waiting, a hunter must advance quickly to the turkey’s position when he hears it gobble. Turkeys usually do not mind their environs; thus, providing an opportunity for the hunter to follow it. Also, it is a great idea to go around the turkey to interrupt its path.

And in times when a hunter comes across two gobblers, a good turkey hunting guide will suggest that he teams up with a colleague. He can call the turkey and have his colleague wait at the other side of the forest. So, when the turkey walks away from him, his colleague will be able to capture it. But if his colleague missed, the turkey will just probably turn around toward him. In this case, the hunters will be able to capture the turkey whichever direction it goes. In addition, the correct part to aim for can be read in a turkey hunting guide. This will be the head of the turkey or its vital internal organs. Nonetheless, a hunter must have practiced really well prior to the hunt, so he can have more chances to succeed.

Several dog owners go via a harrowing experience controlling their pets chewing instinct. Particularly if you own a big breed the injury to your furniture and upholstery might be palpable. Unfortunately, a lot of pet owners get tired of acquiring toy following toy only to see them destroyed.

I had a similar issue with my dog who is now 6 months old. He was cuteness epitomized till he turned two months old and then all hell broke loose in my house. It will be a nightmare coming back property each day. I mean on my ride back home from Manhattan to Queens I would be engrossed in thinking about the sight that would behold me right after opening the door of my house. I was pretty tired of investing over and over again in chewy toys which my dog would either chomp down ( the bones built of animal hide) or they will be in tatters in a matter of minutes ( the ones made of rubber).

Finally a friend told me about Kong canine toys. Now I was a little skeptical when she told me that they are nearly indestructible. After all what can possibly stand the assault of animal teeth and claws. But I was pleasantly surprised and so I want to share the 5 reasons to buy Kong canine toys with you.

1) The company is a reputable establishment that has been around because 1976 so when they make a claim you can certainly rely on them. Even though the toys are slightly pricey should you desire to ensure your dog’s safety and also the safety of your furniture Kong canine toys are by far the most effective option in the market.

2) The toys are incredibly sturdy and can withstand weeks of pet onslaught prior to showing signs of damage. The rubber utilized is very durable and of the top quality

3) It is possible to get them in all shapes and sizes so you possibly can take your pick depending for the size of your pet. Personally I think the ones that bounce around randomly are incredibly entertaining for my pet but you could also opt for the kind in which you possibly can put treats and that need to keep your canine occupied for hours.

4) It’s really effortless to pick the correct Kong canine toy for your pet due to the fact you’ve the sizes listed in relation to the dog breeds about the packaging

5) Because the toys don’t squeak they aren’t as annoying as some other canine toys, their round shape makes them very challenging for your pet. But if your canine is particularly adventurous it is possible to often go for the additional strong black version.

So my conclusion is that purchasing canine toys built by Kong is one way to ascertain that your canine leaves your high-priced furniture and other things alone.

Information you need when you need it!

Walking your dog can be one of the greatest pleasures in life. You get outside, you get exercise, and you get to make your best friend very, very happy. Of course, some dog walks are better than others. Here are some tips for having more of the best kinds of walks.

1) Improve your dog’s comfort with walking on a leash

This means getting some dog training. You can learn how to do it online, from a book, or from a class. Classes are best. Check local doggie daycare facilities if they have any basic dog training classes. The American Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Certificate training is excellent. Being with other dogs will help you and your dog not only learn basic obedience, but it will teach you how to practice it out in “the real world”, among other dogs, instead of in the easier but less helpful environment of your home.

2) Get the right leash

Your dog needs to be on a strong leash no more than six feet long. The extendable leashes that go out 30 feet are really only okay when you are out on a hiking trail and no other dogs are around. If you are going for a walk through the neighborhood or in a park, you need the control of a well made, reinforced six foot leash. Dogs under 30 pounds can use the little half inch wide leashes. Dogs over 30 pounds, and especially dogs over 60 pounds need the wider one inch leashes. Make sure the clip is attached to the right part of your dog’s collar. If you attach it where the dog tag goes, with one strong pull your dog will be loose.

Another part of getting the right leash may involve a leash that doubles as a dog-training tool, or the kind of leash that is for dogs that tend to pull a lot. Avoid prong collars. A better way to control a dog that pulls is with something called a “gentle leader”. Its a loop that goes behind the back of your dogs head and over his nose. When he pulls, the pressure is applied to his nose. An insistent dog can still pull, but they respect pressure on their nose much more than pressure around their neck. Having a gentle leader also means a really riled-up dog won’t make those gasping noises that happen when it is pulling so hard that its airway is being affected.

3) Carry doggie bags

These are, ahem, not the kind you get at restaurants. One of the primary reasons to walk a dog is to let it relieve itself. Letting your dog go on someone’s yard is not okay, and it is also not okay to let your dog pee on someone’s flowers or even on their mailbox. This does not make for good neighborly relations. So carry at least three doggie bags at all times, use them, and dispose of them properly. Using a doggie bag and then leaving it by the side of the road is not acceptable.

4) Be mindful of other dogs

Many of us grew up with the idea that every dog got along with every other dog, that all dogs were good playmates and had no issues with other dogs. That’s just not true. Not all dogs get along, and you are definitely going to run into dogs that are either afraid or aggressive. Don’t blame the dog or the owner, just move your dog out of close proximity to them. Stepping ten feet off the path to give them a wide berth is good. Stay as calm and as confident as you can — your dog will be looking to you to get a read of whether or not they need to go into defensive mode.

Are you interested in the Biorb Fish Tank to be the new classy home for your fish? If so then you’ll be pleased to know that not only is the Biorb tank cool and stylish, but it is also very easy to set up and maintain. Also, there is a huge selection of aquariums to select from so I’m sure that you will find one to suite your budget and your style. One of the reasons that the Biorb tanks are very popular is due to their incredible look, they are classy and cool and really do brighten up any room. The easy maintenance is also a very big reason that they are so popular as I’m sure you will agree that no-one wants to spend too much time cleaning their fish tank. Let’s take a closer look at just why these classy tanks have become incredibly popular. Large Selection – there is such a big range of Biorb aquariums to choose from and they come in all different sizes, so whether you are looking for a small tank to fit on a desk or cabinet, or whether you are after a larger aquarium for a bigger room, then I’m sure you’ll find the right size you are searching for in the Biorb range. They Have Everything – these aquariums really do come with everything that you need to successfully set up a fish tank except for the fish. The aquariums come with filters, air pump, light and dechlorinator, saving you the hassle of shopping for all these items individually. Easy To Maintain – as a fish owner, I know that the chore of cleaning the aquarium is not an exciting job and personally I don’t like doing it very often. This is one of the popular features of the Biorb tank, that they are so much easier to maintain than normal fish aquariums. They are simple and fast to clean giving you more time to spend looking at your fish rather than cleaning their tank. Reef One are the creators of the Biorb fish tank and they really have done a great job with them. They really are attractive, fun and stylish so if you want something a little different for your fish that looks great then this may be the tank for you. The Biorb tank sure is my favourite and the best aquarium that I can give my fish.

If your dog has a thick coat and tends to shed a lot, then chances are you’ve had to deal with trying to comb that coat in order to get rid of some of the dead hair before it ended up on your floor, carpet, or just about any other surface in your home. You’ve probably struggled with different types of brushes and combs only to find that you spend more time pulling hair by hand because the brush or comb simply does not do the trick. The truth is, there is one solution that you may not yet have discovered that could save you a ton of time.

Most of us have busy lifestyles and cannot afford to spend hours on end trying to brush our dog’s coat in order to get rid of all of the knots and excess undercoat that is being shed. Yet, we want to be able to take care of it in a short period of time so that we can go about the rest of our day. Brushing a dog’s goat can create mess, which is usually what takes the most time out of the entire process.

One way to maintain your dog’s coat without a lot of effort is with a great product known as the FURminator. This brush works with you, not against you, in your efforts of maintaining your dogs coat and removing the dead hair that would normally end up on your floor or other surfaces throughout your house. This is made possible because the FURminator removes hair from the undercoat, and not the healthy overcoat. It’s the hair in the undercoat that typically ends up causing the biggest mess in your home. The FURminator is available in a number of different sizes which you’ll select based on the size of the dog that you’ll be using it on.

If you’ve been struggling with cleaning up after your shedding dog and would like to take care of the problem before it starts, then the FURminator is the perfect solution for you.

Pet gates serve a multitude of needs. Probably the most important reason people look to purchase a pet gate is for containing a pet in an area where they won’t do any harm to themselves or destroy what’s in the room.

The first and most common question people have is whether or not the gate they want to buy is ok to use around children as well. It’s a great question and the answer can help you determine which gate in fact you should buy.

When gates are designed just for pets or just to use around children the criteria are different. However, over the last 30+ years manufacturers have found that designing their gates for a multi-use situation has been the better choice. So, today most gates on the market can be used in either circumstance.

There are things to look for though to make sure the gate you buy in fact meets these requirements. Free standing gates are not child-use certified. They are made such that there are no attachments made to walls or doorways and a child under the right circumstances could topple the gate.

You need to look for gates that carry one of the following certifications. The first is known as a JPMA certified gate. This stands for “Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association”. This independent organization certifies the companies that manufacture and sell JPMA registered products. They also audit them to make sure they follow the standards and procedures for their operation, test the products in an independent lab as required and submit to random testing during the year.

The second certification a gate may have is the ASTM stamp. (ASTM F1004-07) ASTM International (formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials) is the organization in conjunction with the JPMA and manufacturers that develop and implement the standards. So if the gate has either certification they may be used around children.

As tempting as it may be, even using some of the old gates you may have around from earlier years from your Mom and Dad might not be the way to go. It doesn’t matter if you’re using it for a pet or a child. The old finishes and designs can cause more harm than good.

Back in the day, the old accordion type gate was about the only type gate any of us used. But that style, materials they used to make it and whether or not it’s sturdy enough really need to be taken into account. Its not that safety wasn’t important back then, but it was the best we had using the information we knew.

The old gates also don’t have good latching and locking mechanisms to keep the children safe and secure. I don’t think pinch points were ever a concern and certainly they had limited stability. They are also known to cause both pets and children to get caught in the “v” and several cases of strangulation have been reported.

So make an educated purchase by reading and understanding all that the industry has to offer today. There are over a dozen styles to choose from. Gates can be used for both pets and children and nowadays look great. So select a style and location and you’ll be on your way. Good Luck.

So, you are thinking about raising chickens in your backyard? That’s a great idea! Why? Because having your own chickens provides you with many advantages. For one, you won’t have to worry about fresh eggs any longer – you’ll find them right there in your backyard. This will save you a lot of money in the long run, and you will know where your breakfast eggs are coming from. That’s a great feeling, I can tell you!

Furthermore, you are doing a favor to the chickens themselves. Just think about the conditions that modern egg-producing hens are raised under. That will make you shudder. Your backyard, however, will make for a lot happier and healthier chickens! To keep your chickens healthy, it is important to pick the right size of chicken coop that will give each bird enough space to live. Also the ventilation and proper positioning in your backyard are important factors to consider.

When looking at chicken coops, you have the option to either buy a coop or build your own from hen house plans. You’ll be able to save a lot of money by picking out the right chicken coop plans and building it yourself (it’s not that hard) or have somebody build it for you. Fact is, most commercially available, “pre-built” hen houses need to be assembled, too. And they are a lot more expensive than the coop plans plus material costs! A pre-built chicken coop can start (depending on the size) anywhere from $500 to several thousand dollars and up.

Also, you will have a lot more options to pick from if you are going with chicken coop plans. That way you can get the most out of the space available in your backyard, you can choose between portable and fixed hen houses, and you can pick a design that you really like. Nobody wants an eye-sore in their backyard – your neighbors will be a lot happier with a nice looking chicken coop than some ugly box that obstructs their view.

Visit my website http://iqbanq.com/easy-chicken-coop-plans/ and see just how easy building your very own hen house can be.

Scheduled preventative maintenance for your saltwater or freshwater aquarium can be made much easier by following these simple guidelines. With just a little maintenance work done every day, this will keep your fish and aquarium environment clean and healthy.

Things to be done daily:

Make sure to turn the aquarium lights on and off each day. Most aquarists find it convenient to use an automatic timer for this. If you choose not to go this route, try to turn the lights on and off at the same times each day. What you will be trying to do, is replicate a natural day/night cycle for your fish.

Take a couple of minutes each day to check your fish and invertebrates for signs of stress, disease, or death. Always be prepared to remove dead specimens immediately, and treat any sick fish accordingly.

Feed your fish and invertebrates twice a day, removing any uneaten food.

If your tank is not fully seasoned yet, conduct water tests until the water matures and the nitrogen cycle is established. Routine tests include ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. Record and track these test results carefully.

Routinely check the water temperature in your aquarium. Adjust the heater up or down as needed, unless you’re using one of the preset aquarium heaters currently on the market. If you have a saltwater tank, the specific gravity or salinity, must also be checked.

If a protein skimmer is being utilized on your aquarium, empty the collection cup as needed.

The ever-attentive aquarist should also check the water level, and top off as needed.

Visually check all aquarium systems: heaters, filters, aerators, protein skimmers and such. Make sure they’re all running properly and smoothly and pay special attention to intakes and siphon tubes. Make sure nothing is leaking or sucking air.

Things to be done weekly:

Remove excess algae, while keeping beneficial algae at acceptable levels and getting rid of nuisance algae.

Clean the glass, both inside and out, without the use of glass cleaners of course. Remove salt-creep deposits.

Water tests should be conducted weekly, after the water matures and the nitrogen cycle has been established. Record all of these test results and add trace elements and buffers, as needed.

Things to be done every other week:

Clean your aquarium filters as needed. All solid debris should be carefully removed. Partially change or rinse the filter media within the filter if the bio-load is particularly high, the media is extremely dirty, or the normal water flow is being restricted.

Change about 10 to 15 percent of the tank water while thoroughly vacuuming the gravel.

Things to be done monthly:

Conduct thorough filter checks to assess the filter’s overall effectiveness. Replace the filter carbon and rinse the filter media and components as needed, being careful to not upset the bulk of the bioload.

If a protein skimmer is being utilized on your tank, it should be thoroughly cleaned at this time.

Thoroughly clean the outside of the fish tank, hood, aquarium stand and surrounding area, removing all salt and calcium deposits, dust, and any dirt that has accumulated.

Remove and rinse off any tank decorations or plants that suffer from excess algae growth.

One of the giants in the world of dog breeds is the Great Dane. The only dog that is taller on average is the Irish Wolfhound. For all of its majestic size though the Great Dane is a very gentle dog. This is an elegantly strong animal with plenty of energy and a friendly demeanor.

History of the Breed

There is historical evidence that similar dogs to the Great Danes were around in Egypt in 3000 B.C. This evidence is in drawings located on monuments in Egypt. The earliest recording in writing about this type of dog is from 1121 B.C. The English Mastiff was crossbred with an Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane was born.

The Germans developed this breed in the beginning to hunt the boar, which is a fierce beast. At that time the dog’s name was Boar Hound. During the 1800s the dog remained a popular hunting dog. Then the nobility and other dog lovers of the day began to have the Great Danes on their properties. Toward the later part of the 1800s the Great Dane started doing dog shows along with still being a hunting dog.

After this surge in popularity the breed started being refined and standardized. The AKC registered the Great Dane finally in 1887 and placed it in the “Working Dog Group.” After it was not used as a hunting dog any longer it became a guard dog or a pet. This breed is still popular in spite of its size being trying on owners at times.

Temperament of the Breed

This breed is a gentle laid-back dog with protective instincts. It is not usually that aggressive of a dog. In spite of its huge size it is great to have around kids. The dog will need to be trained though not to jump up on children or adults, because the can literally make someone fall over.

It can be a good companion dog if socialized from an early age. The Great Dane can shy away a bit from strangers as they get older. They do need a certain amount of activity. This dog should also be obedience trained so that it knows how to act in a variety of situations. Due to their great size they make great watchdogs, and don’t always have to get aggressive to chase people off. If they are up to no good the person may leave at the sight of the dog.

Health Issues this Breed Could Face

Below are some health issues that the Great Dane could be faced with.

Skin Allergies

Gastric Torsion

Cardiomyopathy

Skin Tumors

CVI

Canine Hip Dysplasia

von Willebrands Disease

Grooming Requirements for the Breed

This Great Dane breed should receive basic routine grooming. Brushing the coat with a bristle brush is about all it needs. If the owner wants to add gloss to the coat they can just rub it with a soft cloth to bring out the shine.

This breed does shed some but not heavily. Wet bathing is not recommended rather use the dry shampoo at least at home. If you do need to dog to go through a wet bathing, take the dog to a groomer who can handle bathing the larger dogs more easily. The dog’s nails should be trimmed to the proper length.
